Thereza Botha
Thereza Botha was born in Worcester, Western Cape Province. She matriculated from the Swartland High School in Malmesbury and studied in the Arts at Stellenbosch University where she obtained her Masters Degree in Linguistics in 1982. She worked as a researcher and a lecturer in the Department of General Linguistics at the University of Stellenbosch. She was a member of the editorial team of the Stellenbosch Papers in Linguistics (SPIL) and SPIL Plus, two publications published by the Department of General Linguistics. From 1983 to 1984 she was appointed as lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Pretoria.
In 1989 she joined TechnoScene as chief financial officer and was also put in charge of public relations. She is part of the senior planning team in TechnoScene. In 1993 she started the TechnoScene Event business in addition to her financial management responsibilities. TechnoScene has organised several science, engineering and technology conferences, some of which were major international events and part of the international conference circuit.
She is skilled in database design and data management for large events, liaison with service providers and sponsors, has considerable experience in communication management, negotiation and subcontractor management. Her creative skills are applied to deliver memorable events and functions whether it is in the African bush or in a large city. Her communications skills with international visitors has made her a popular organiser and her ability to keep large delegate groups informed, assisted and happy is well known.
She specialises in consultancy and delivery of knowledge transfer events, promotional events, servicing local and international customers. The consultancy involves turn-key solutions around the events, including planning, advising on venues, handling of presenters and delegates, event programme and publications, event accommodation, transport and tours and visits and functions as well as event web sites. Each event, including sponsors, advertisers and exhibitors is managed separately financially.
Thereza is skilled in documenting strategic discussions, following from workshops she organises or attends where TechnoScene provides the facilitator and has the ability to produce outcome documentation in real time.
